Szenenwechsel I bis III

2011 - 2014

60.80.0020

The catalogue accompanies the exhibitions ‘Scenes Change I to III’. The exhibition ‘Scenes Change I’ is a contribution to the artistic subject of interiors. Interiors usually show a space of privacy and intimacy that is clearly separated from the outside world. The desire for voyeurism, the longing to look into other people's rooms and participate in their private lives, is a well-known need. At the same time, however, the interior has always been and continues to be an arena for artistic experimentation, in which new possibilities of representation are playfully explored. In the interior of the home, everything wild is domesticated, and instead of travelling ourselves, we allow ourselves to be fascinated by the aura of things and travel in our thoughts and dreams.

Artists: Guy Ben-Ner (IL) David Bestué & Marc Vives (E), Gerard Holthuis (NL), Peter Rösel (D), Ursula Stalder (CH).

The exhibition ‘Scenes Change II’ shows works that are pointed artistic statements on human intervention in nature and refer to the contradictions of existence in a globalised world. With quiet irony, they move between surrealistic performance and playful transformation, showing the cycle of life as a tragicomedy in which laughter and horror are inextricably linked.

Artists: Walter Martin & Paloma Muñoz (USA), Rupprecht Matthies (Germany), Hotel Modern (Netherlands), Isabella Rossellini (Italy/USA).
