Rune Guneriussen - Lights go out

30.01.2022 - 12.06.2022

60.80.0017

Norwegian artist Rune Guneriussen (born 1977) spent 2018 as artist in residence at the Museum Kunst der Westküste on Föhr, where he laid the foundation for his new series of works, Lights go out: he created the first three works in the series at various locations on the island. Others were created in Norway and the Danish coastal town of Skagen.

Guneriussen's work moves between installation art and photography.

In his series Lights go out, abstract light installations enter into a ‘dialogue’ with nature. The harmony between the two results in powerful and atmospheric images that are as idyllic as they are unsettling. On closer inspection, a web of subtle contradictions unfolds between nature, installation and light. It conveys the artist's personal perception of the changing relationship between humans and nature, which fluctuates between dependence and alienation. The Lights go out series can be understood as Guneriussen's commentary on a globally escalating environmental crisis, as an expression of his engagement with one of the most pressing issues of our time.
