Bizarre formations of eternal ice, vegetation on barren rock, the forest as a potpourri of diverse surfaces. The exhibition Per Bak Jensen – Humming Earth brings together earlier and more recent large-format landscape photographs. Through perspective, light and exposure, the artist draws our attention to things that we often tend to overlook in the rush of everyday life – be they small structures or larger contexts.

The task that Per Bak Jensen repeatedly sets himself is to listen to the quiet truths that he believes are inherent in nature. Are we, as humans, capable of recognising these subtle nuances? Per Bak Jensen believes so – provided we are willing to perceive and understand them. His photographs are thus testimonies to an almost metaphysical process of wanting to understand our surroundings.

Per Bak Jensen (born 1949) is one of the most important representatives of modern Danish landscape photography. Trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, he was the first graduate to devote himself to photography as an independent and exclusive medium. As an academy lecturer, he has inspired numerous younger Scandinavian artists for more than 20 years since 1986. Reason enough to introduce this pioneer of his field to the local audience in his first solo exhibition in a German museum.
