The structures and principles of life are reflected in astonishingly similar ways, from the smallest to the largest scales. Danish artist Nicolai Howalt (born 1970) seeks connections to science and its history. His aesthetic approach also raises existential questions about our role in an interconnected world.

The exhibition and catalogue bring together four recent series of works: digital image information from Mars takes on a familiar expression as physical photographs, while photograms of fungal spores resemble galaxies. Howalt varies the motif of the world's oldest tree, whose roots in turn depend on fungal systems. He also points his camera at the sun and uses historical lenses to make the invisible visible to humans.
